Frida Kahlo's Wardrobe at the V&A

If you’re a fan of all things art, you’ve probably heard of Frida Kahlo. She was an incredible woman, heralded as an icon of female empowerment, creativity and self- expression (all things that Emmy London champions!). Her work is considered some of the most important of the era, and she is still highly celebrated to this day.

Frida Kahlo’s Style

One of the most iconic things about this wonderful woman was her style – so often presented to us in her striking self-portraits. From her strong eyebrows displaying a fierce style to the bright flowers she often decorated her hair with, every inch of herself was used as a form of art and self-expression. Her wardrobe, in particular, was something to fascinate and amaze – one of the most significant collections of clothing the world has ever seen!

After being locked away for 50 years after Kahlo’s death in 1954, the eclectic pieces of her wardrobe and artefacts she collected over the years are, for the first time outside of Mexico, being exhibited right here in London at the V&A.

The Exhibition

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London will be opening Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up to the public on 16th June 2018. On display will be a collection of incredible items that give us a peep into the life of Frida, exploring the woman behind the canvas and delighting in the gems that have been kept from us for so long.
From intricately hand-stitched dresses and gorgeously crafted shoes to previously unseen photos and cosmetics used by the artist, this is the closest you can get to Frida Kahlo – beyond, of course, her art.

Plan a Day Out

A lot of our lovely customers here at Emmy London visit our boutique from far and wide, travelling from all over the county to try on our gorgeous shoes in person! With something as important as a bridal shoe, we think it’s vital you get to see all of our collection up close before you find the one that’s made for you. But, we don’t expect you to come all this way and then go home again – not when there’s so much to do in London!

We think visiting the Frida Kahlo exhibition is the perfect way to spend your free time. Located in South Kensington, the V&A is so close to Emmy London that it wouldn’t make sense not to! You can also get some wedding inspiration from one of the most influential women in modern history.
