The Best London Spots for August Bank Holiday
August 20, 2018
We’ve already been having some extraordinarily lovely weather this year in London –and Britain! – which has been a delight for everyone here. Parks have been filled with summer-loving sun-seekers, and pub gardens have been overflowing with laughter. All in all, London is the place to be this summer. With the sunny weather set to continue and the August bank holiday fast-approaching, what better time to get outside in London?
To help you do just that, our team at Emmy London have put together some great spots to enjoy the sunshine at which the whole family can enjoy.
Picnic at Richmond Park
There’s nothing better than a picnic in Richmond Park on a warm bank holiday. Fill your picnic basket with plenty of your favourite treats – and maybe even a bottle or two if you want to make it a romantic date – and head out to this city oasis. With lush greenery, tranquil lakes and plenty of wandering deer, it really does make for a picturesque setting. If you’re not the picnic type, but still want to enjoy all that Richmond has to offer, then why not head to Petersham Nurseries for a browse, and maybe a spot to eat.
Pedalos in Hyde Park
Pedalos can be both romantic or fun, depending on your bank holiday aims. Take one out in Hyde Park and enjoy a laid-back journey through the Serpentine, taking in the scenery, getting up close and personal with the wild fowl, and bathing in the summer sun. Once you’ve had your fill of boating, you can take a stroll through the park or head to nearby Harvey Nichols for a little bit of retail therapy.
Rooftop Films
There aren’t many better ways to spend a bank holiday evening than under the open sky as the sun begins to set, with a classic film playing on a giant projector. That’s exactly what you can do in London! Rooftop venues have been popping up all over the place – one of our favourites is Rooftop Film Club; they have venues across London with skyline views of the city and great films. If you want to benefit from the rooftop views but aren’t a film buff, then you could visit Coq D’Argent for fabulous views of the Bank of England and The City – as well as a delicious Aperol Spritz or two.
Visit a City Farm
A lot of people don’t expect to find farms in the middle of London, but we actually have quite a few dotted about. They make for great family days out that’ll keep everyone entertained and are a brilliant way to get everyone outdoors for the whole day. We love Spitalfields City Farm here at Emmy London, as well as Hackney City Farm (near London Fields) and Newham City Farm, but you can easily search online to find one that’s right for you.
Chelsea Physic Garden
Near to our boutique in Chelsea is the Physic Garden, which is a historic botanical garden full of wonderful flowers and foliage. Take a wander around, learn about the uses of different plants and sit back under the sun surrounded by beautiful nature. It’s a wonderful way to spend the day!
