Kate & Alex's New York Dream Wedding

Kate & Alex's New York Dream Wedding article image

We consider it an honour when a bride-to-be comes to Emmy London to be a part of their journey in finding the perfect shoe to match their dream dress- Especially when they have travelled from all the way across the pond. Our beautiful bride was on a trip from America when she visited our Chelsea boutique and fell in love with her dream Bluebell bridal shoes.

.Who proposed and how?

My husband Alex proposed on March 25, 2017 at our apartment in NYC. I had just returned home from a business trip to California and when we walked into our apartment, he had decorated it with roses and candles. His friend was also hiding in the apartment to capture the moment on video. He got down on one knee and proposed (candidly, I can barely remember what he said because I was so overwhelmed with happiness!). It was simply AMAZING!

When was your wedding?

Our wedding was on September 29, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, NJ.  The venue was overlooking the NYC skyline. We were so fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day!

What shoes did you choose?

I chose the Bluebell shoes- they were just PERFECT! The ideal Cinderella slipper for my wedding day. As soon as I set my eyes on them, I knew they were the shoes that I wanted to wear when I walked down the aisle.

How was your experience with Emmy London?

Emmy London was simply incredible to work with! I took my mom on a trip to London to celebrate her 60th birthday and I knew I wanted to get something special for my wedding while on our trip. I discovered Emmy London and made an appointment to try on a few different shoes. We were welcomed with lovely glasses of lemonade and had the entire shop to ourselves (not to mention, the neighbourhood was absolutely beautiful). It really felt like the red carpet had been rolled out. Truly a dream come true to fall in love with the amazing Bluebell shoes on a very special trip with just me and my mom.

What was your vision for your wedding?

Alex and I are both very traditional and we envisioned a NYC style black tie event, with red roses and lots of greenery. We had some golds, light pinks/blush and whites in our wedding decor as well.

What were your most memorable and favourite moments of the day and is there any advice you would give to future couples, in the shoe buying process or in any aspect of the wedding experience?

Marrying my husband was of course the best part of the day, but we had 3 very special moments:

1) Our ceremony was amazing as we had some of the most important people in our lives speak at our wedding and help us through each part of the ceremony.

2) We hired a company called Oysters XO to shuck oysters during our cocktail hour and it was a huge hit! Oysters are one of my favourite foods so it felt very special and unique!

3) Alex and I had a choreographed dance for our first dance (LOVE by Nat King Cole) and at the end of the song, we had a big dance move (a lift and dip!) and we crushed it! It was a great moment.

.

Overall we loved our wedding, but my best advice to other couples is to live in and enjoy the moment because it's so fleeting. Don't sweat the small stuff - things go wrong, but you only get one wedding and it's really important to not spend a single second upset about anything! In terms of the shoe buying process, I am a huge shoe girl! I love shoes and so for me, finding the perfect pair was really important. It came down to two things: beauty and comfort. And I was fortunate to find both in my Emmy London Bluebell shoes!
