Royalene's Magical Winter Wedding

Royalene's Magical Winter Wedding article image

Our beautiful bride Royalene and husband James wed just over a year ago on January 4th 2020 at The Press Room in downtown Knoxville, USA. They wanted their wedding day to be a glam, vintage style Winter wedding - and the end result was simply stunning.

Who proposed and how?

My now husband James proposed to me on October 20th, 2018 at Oakes Farm just outside Knoxville Tennessee in their field of sunflowers which is one of my favourite flowers! The farm sold little metal buckets and you could walk through the field and pick out as many as you could fit in your bucket so we were doing that and I asked our friend who was with us to take our picture together and as she was getting ready to take it he got down on his knee and asked me. It was super sweet, I could tell he was nervous, he was speaking so softly I could barely hear him. But after being together since 2013 and moving away from home with him I couldn’t wait to say yes!

Where was your wedding?

It used to be an old printing press building. I loved the character and history of the building and have always loved things and places with a history so that was important to me in picking a venue.

What was your vision for your wedding?

I’ve always wanted a long sleeve wedding dress and I love winter and snow so I of course had to go with a winter wedding. I also love the 40's so I wanted a kind of glam vintage style wedding. James is military and his uniform has lots of colours and ribbons and medals so I went with a classic simple dress to compliment him.

What shoes did you choose?

I choose the Emmy London gold peep toe beaded shoes because the minute I saw them I fell in love with them. They embodied everything I imagined my shoes would look like and they matched my wedding colours perfectly. I got major vintage inspired vibes from them and I liked that they were a t-strap, very classy and elegant with just the right amount of bling. Since my dress was so simple I decided to really go for it with my shoes.

How was your experience with Emmy London?

My experience with Emmy London was amazing. The shipping was incredibly fast, the packaging was beautiful and communication was amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and smooth transaction while planning a wedding. It was no stress at all.

What were your most memorable and favourite moments of the day?

My most memorable moment was how I felt right as they pulled back the curtain for me to walk down the aisle, I chose our favourite song to walk to, Holocene by Bon Iver and it was like I had tunnel vision and saw just James. It felt like being in a movie with your own soundtrack just excitedly walking to him, we had been planning for over a year for that moment and it was perfect. A fun moment was when we went to cut the cake, we did it with my husbands military sword and it was not sharp enough to cut the cake so we made a big mess everywhere all while laughing hysterically!

Is there any advice you would give to future couples, in the buying shoes process or in any aspect of the wedding experience?

My advice to couples is to not sweat the small stuff when planning a wedding. It’s supposed to be a fun time and it’s easy to get sucked in to the idea that the process needs to be stressful. In life, try to be open minded in a disagreement and ask yourself if the situation was reversed, how would you feel/think/react? Say sorry when it’s warranted, it doesn’t make you weak, it actually shows great personal growth to be able to admit when you’re wrong or have made a mistake. As for the shoes, it’s the same as the dress, you’ll know then you have found “the pair” and when you find them, buy them. No regrets!
